"To do a dangerous thing with style is what I call art."

-Charles Bukowski

OFF THE MAP

A collection of fiery and insightful short fictions about young people discovering the edges of their world – mentally, physically and emotionally.

‘These are stories that stroll through the Australian landscape with measured, confident steps that never miss a beat. Walking with Gardner is a delight – you’re in for a wild, funny and profoundly moving journey.’ – Barry Jonsberg, author of My Life as an Alphabet

about me

I’m not exactly sure how I ended up a writer. I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was at school, but I did work experience as a vet and it was nothing like I’d imagined.

The Tale Slapped

Writing for young adults can be fraught – how far can you go before your book is quietly removed from library shelves? And who are you writing for – teenagers or adults? Scot Gardner, author of Changing Gear, tackles the question of how to get fifteen-year-olds to sit up and take notice.

Smashing glass at the gates of hell

The local rubbish dump was where Scot Gardner learnt about friendship, the world and enough danger to make his heart race.
